The Homeowner Success Program is offering several community-building and educational opportunities this spring and summer for homeowners who have utilized Portland Housing Center resources. 

Additionally, join PHC and community partners in the Portland area this June for three free workshop sessions that will provide knowledge and experience on relevant homeowner topics.

Hiring a Contractor with Oregon Construction Contractors Board (Online)
Wednesday, June 3rd from 6:00-7:30pm on Zoom 

• This workshop provides an overview of the Oregon Construction Contractors Board (CCB) and important information for homeowners on hiring a contractor. Participants learn how to find and vet contractors, understand contracts and licensing requirements (including lead-based paint certification), navigate the CCB website, and identify common scams to avoid. 

Get Your Stay Kit Together with MakeWith (In-person)
Wednesday, June 10th from 6:00-8:00pm at Portland Housing Center (3233 NE Sandy Blvd) 

• This community-focused emergency preparedness workshop teaches you how to prepare a practical “stay kit” so you can safely shelter at home during emergencies like earthquakes or storms, even when access to supplies and services is limited. This workshop covers what to include and how to plan for up to two weeks of readiness – plus you’ll receive take-home checklists to help you complete your kit with confidence. 

Home Repair 101 – Plumbing with ReBuilding Center (In-person)
Wednesday, June 17th from 6:00-7:30pm at Portland Housing Center (3233 NE Sandy Blvd) 

• This interactive workshop focuses on the basics of home plumbing, taught by a home repair expert from partner organization ReBuilding Center. Participants engage with hands-on demonstrations using real fixtures and tools, and leave with water-saving kits and helpful resources to support ongoing maintenance at home.

*Currently, Homeowner Success education courses are restricted to those who have utilized Portland Housing Center’s pre-purchase services in their homebuying process, such as PHC’s homebuying classes, counseling, IDA, or lending services. We look forward to expanding eligibility in the future. Participants are encouraged to sign up for all 3 courses, but are not required to do so.
