PLAN: You’ll meet with a HomeBuying Specialist to assess your situation, help you develop a home buying plan, and determine how much you can safely afford. We’ll pull your SoftTouch credit report, and also match you with any special programs you may qualify for.
LEARN: Based on your situation, we’ll recommend financial and/or home buyer education courses that provide you with all of the information you need to make smart homebuying choices.
FINANCE: Meet with our Loan Officer to find the best, most affordable loan for you and to get pre-approved.
BUY: Shop for a home that meets your needs - and your pocketbook. We have a list of trusted Realtors and Home Inspectors to guide you in negotiating the best deal. Your HomeBuying Specialist is available to review your documents with you before you sign on the dotted line!
PROTECT: Come and take a class on home maintenance and repairs, tax issues for homeowners, and building a strong financial future as a homeowner.
What to Know Before Registration
A payment of $99/household is required to complete your registration. This materials fee includes your first credit report (for you and your co-buyer) as well as all counseling, group education, and financial services during your homebuying journey and beyond. Additional fees may be incurred for other services such as self-paced education courses (paid to a 3rd party vendor). Please review our complete fee schedule.
- For those who are reading this page in Spanish, and/or wish to register in Spanish, please note that there may be some gaps in the translation but we hope and plan to have this resolved very soon! If you would prefer to register in person or by mail, download the registration packet in English or in Spanish.
- Our registration process will ask you to provide you and your co-buyer’s social security number (SSN) or ITIN so that we can pull your credit report in preparation for your first appointment. This data is kept private, secure and never shared. Click Here to Read Our Privacy Policy
- If your income is currently under $40,000, please call to discuss your situation with a Portland Housing Center staff member before registering for services. We have a long and sucessful history of helping low-income households purchase their first home, but it is also important to have reasonable expectations for buying a home in the Portland Metro Area.
- We do not recommend homebuyers registering solely to receive down payment assistance. PHC often secures or participates in new DPA programs as they become available, but eligibility varies by program and the limited funding always goes fast. Since access to DPA usually depends what funding is available at the time the household is ready to buy, we can never guarantee a household will receive DPA at registration.

Note: You must use the same email for each part of the registration process: the online form, making the payment, and setting up your first appointment in order for your registration to process correctly. We do not send unwanted email and will never share your email with others so please use an email that you check regularly. This is also the email that your counselor will use to communicate with you.
You will be asked to submit signed authorization and disclosure forms as well as other documentation after you set up your first appointment. You can submit these documents when setting up your appointment, on the customer portal, or by email to adminpdx@portlandhousingcenter.org. These documents must be submitted prior to your first appointment.
