PLAN: You’ll meet with a HomeBuying Specialist to assess your situation, help you develop a home buying plan, and determine how much you can safely afford. We’ll pull your SoftTouch credit report, and also match you with any special programs you may qualify for.
LEARN: Based on your situation, we’ll recommend financial and/or home buyer education courses that provide you with all of the information you need to make smart homebuying choices.
FINANCE: Meet with our Loan Officer to find the best, most affordable loan for you and to get pre-approved.
BUY: Shop for a home that meets your needs - and your pocketbook. We have a list of trusted Realtors and Home Inspectors to guide you in negotiating the best deal. Your HomeBuying Specialist is available to review your documents with you before you sign on the dotted line!
PROTECT: Come and take a class on home maintenance and repairs, tax issues for homeowners, and building a strong financial future as a homeowner.

There is a non-refundable $99 registration fee per household, paid at the time of registration. Please review our complete fee schedule here.
Please note that we scheduling several months out for counseling appointments and about a month out for homebuyer education classes.
Please note this registration is for all Portland Housing Center services, including counseling, education, and financial services. Portland Housing Center’s financial services/down payment assistance programs require additional income/asset qualification and are subject to availability. Down payment assistance is just one of the tools Portland Housing Center provides to first time homebuyers, we do not recommend homebuyers registering solely to receive down payment assistance.
As a general rule, a household should have an annual gross income of $40,000 (or at least $3,333 a month before taxes) – OR significant personal funds (e.g., $20,000+) to use toward a down payment in order to afford a home in the Portland metro area. If your income is currently under this amount, please call to discuss your situation with a Portland Housing Center staff member before registering for services.
